Often considered the heart of Europe because of its proximity to Luxemburg, Holland, and France, Düsseldorf is a cosmopolitan city on the Rhine River. It is the capitol of North Rhine-Westphalia, the most densely populated German state. More than 100,000 companies operate within the Düsseldorf area, 39,000 of them within city limits and many thousands of them multi-national corporations.
University Overview: The university has 180 full-time professors and approximately 9,000 students, among them 1050 international students from 40 different universities. All degrees are regulated and accredited by the state government. All international students will attend an intensive German language program and an orientation program for two weeks before the semester starts.

Housing:
After being accepted, the student’s name will be given to the Accommodation Office. They will contact the student with an offer for a room at the student residence hall. It is important to return the housing application form promptly in order to reserve a room. Housing is limited and filled on a first come-first serve basis.
The student residence (Studentenwohnheim) is a ten-minute walk from the Business Department and close to the city center by tram. The rooms are equipped with a bed, desk, chair, shelves, washbasin, and a wardrobe. Toilets and showers are on the same level and there are shared cooking facilities. Radioand television are available but cost extra. Rent must be paid for three months and be at least one month in advance.

Academic Program:
The Department of Business Studies is one of the founding departments at the university with more than 1600 students taught by 26 full-time professors. Faculty members have their doctorates either in Business Studies, Economics, or Business Law and have held top-level management positions in the business sector prior to joining the department.
Degrees at UASD are organized in two stages: a basic study stage for years 1 and 2 and a main study stage for years 3 and 4. Teaching includes lectures, seminars, tutorials, and internships. Students will take between 5 and 7 classes each semester.

UTSA COB students will take upper division business courses in English, as well as opt for courses on German language and culture. Please see the attached course equivalency chart (pdf format) and course descriptions (pdf format).
For students who want to stay longer than the academic semester and gain some practical business experience, UASD will help with organizing suitable internships with one of the many international companies situated in and around Düsseldorf. Work placements/internships of up to six months are possible without work permit. Internships cannot be assured in advance but are normally available.
Academic Credit:
Students will earn 15 credit hours for the semester. Credit will transfer to UTSA, but must first get approval with the COB department/advisor before permission will be given for the exchange.

Financial Aid and Resources:
All students can apply for financial aid because they will pay tuition and fees at UTSA. Check with the UTSA Financial Aid Office. The COB Office of International Business Programs and the UTSA Office of International Programs have scholarships available. Download the registration form at the top of the webpage in the Program Profile chart. A completed UASD application consists of: UASD registration form, official copy of your UTSA transcript, resume, and a copy of your passport.
Along with the UASD application, you must complete the Office of International programs Study Abroad application. You can download it from:

Give the completed forms to the Office of International Business Programs. We’ll forward the documents to the UTSA Office of International Programs and mail the documents to UASD.

Once you've been accepted, notify your financial aid officer to review your financial aid packet. If you would like, complete a COB Study Abroad application and an Office of International Programs Study Abroad Scholarship Application.

All UTSA students accepted into Study Abroad programs are required to register with the UTSA Office of International Programs (MB 1.210). A $150 Registration Fee will be assessed to each outgoing student, and must be paid prior to departure. Finally, all students must attend a pre-departure orientation offered by the Office of International Programs prior to participation.
