Established in 1994, UASWN currently has 3 campuses, 400 faculty members, and 1800 students. It is a “Fachhohschule”, which means that it is a private school that is subsidized by the state. It awards both Bachelors degrees (after 8 semesters of work) and Masters degrees (after an additional two to four semesters). Facchochschules require that their students include one or two semesters of guided internships. More than 20% of the business students study abroad.

Social Events:
The social events calendar is published before the beginning of the exchange semester. Excursions lasting a day or a weekend are arranged, a minimum of which four are financially supported by the university. Please check to see that your passport is valid for travel outside of Austria. In addition to excursions, the International Programs Office assigns a buddy to each international student. The buddy will help the incoming student at arrival, get settled at the start of the semester, and assist during the semester whenever needed.
General UASWN Information

Academic Program:
International Student Courses
Prior knowledge of German is not necessary, although students will take an intensive German course during orientation week and are welcome to take German courses for credit during their studies there. The Business Consultancy International (Bci) courses are conducted completely in English. The BCi is designed to give students a sound business education and a global orientation. Attendance in all classes is mandatory and monitored via sign-in lists. If a student is
absent more than the allowed number of times (specified for each course by the professor), then the student will NOT receive a grade for the course. The grading scale is:

A (1) = Excellent
B (2) = Good
C (3) = Satisfactory
D/E (4) = Sufficient (60% of all points awarded for the class)
F/FX (5) – Fail (points earned are below 60%)

Academic Credit:
The assessment system operates according to the principles of the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) which awards 60 credits for each academic year. Thirty ECTS per semester is the minimum transfer load for UTSA students. Six ECTS credits at UTSWN will transfer as 3 UTSA credits. Many of the UASWN courses are 4 credits with 2 credit accompanying
workshops/labs. Students should take both the 4 credit lecture course and the accompanying 2 credit course for the full 6 credits needed for transfer.

Please see the attached course equivalency chart for UTSA approved course listings. http://programs.business.utsa.edu/international/forms/UASWN_course_equiv.pdf

Housing:
http://www.fhwn.ac.at/desktopdefault.aspx?pageid=400

The hall contains laundry, study, fitness, TV, sauna, table tennis, and home cinema rooms. The hall is an 8 minute walk to campus and 10 minutes by bus to the city center. Residents can borrow bicycles for free. Students must pay for their first month of rental in cash (euros). Requests for residence housing are on the application.
